It’s difficult to imagine someone taking your baby away and not knowing if you’ll ever see that child again. Sadly, that’s what happened to one young mom after she gave birth.

Thuy-Nga Thi Nibblett was only seventeen when she became pregnant with her son.

She had a relationship with an American soldier and her father did not approve. She was not only pregnant with an American’s child, but she was not married as well.

“When you have kid half-American, half-Vietnamese, people look down on you, especially your family,” Nibblett explained to CBN News.

Thuy-Nga Thi Nibblett gave birth to her son and never laid eyes on him again.

Her father immediately took her son away and did not let her know where he took him. Her father had put him in the orphanage, where he would eventually be adopted.

The baby, who’s now named Kirk Kellerhals, was adopted from a Vietnamese orphanage at the age of two. He was raised with the belief that his biological parents had perished during the Vietnam War.

Kirk didn’t know that this wasn’t true – and that his biological mother had been praying to reunite with her son ever since he was taken away from her.

Nibblett is now a resident of San Antonio, Texas with her husband.

She never lost faith in finding her long-lost son and submitted her info to the Family Tree DNA website, in the hopes of him doing the same. Kirk finally gave in, at the urging of his wife, and added his DNA to the very same family tree website.

Two years after including her DNA, Nibblett had finally found her son.

It might have taken two years of waiting for a DNA match for Thuy-Nga Thi Nibblett, but it was very quick for Kirk.

“I got the email from Family Tree DNA that the results were back and they had a match … It said parent-child match. I just kind of shook my head and said, ‘That’s a mistake. That’s impossible,'” Kirk recalled to CBN News.

The moment the match occurred Thuy-Nga emailed her son and asked him to call her as soon as possible. The call was surreal for Kirk as Thuy-Nga told him that she believed he was her child. After a lifetime of believing his biological mother had perished, he was hearing her voice on the phone instead.

After 48 years of being separated, the two made quick work in reuniting.

Only weeks after talking on the phone, Thuy-Nga Thi Nibblett and her husband drove from Texas to Virginia Beach, South Carolina to finally meet her son. Kirk anxiously waited outside for his mother to arrive, he did not want to miss a moment. Kirk opens his mother’s truck door and the two immediately hug and start to cry together.

Kirk never thought he would know his biological mother, but she never gave up hope that she would meet her son one day.

The first words that the pair speak in each other arms show the power of faith and love.

Nibblett cried into her son’s arms, “Thank you God for bringing my son to me.”

While Kirk cried to his mother and told her, “Thank you for finding me.”
