"When you tell 20 girls someone is going to get engaged if they find a ring, they are going to find it." 💍🥰

After a tornado tore through Lamar County and damaged Dakota Hudson and Lauren Patterson’s house, a junior college softball team assisted in the couple’s search amid the debris.

Somehow, something Dakota found gave everyone a reason to be happy despite the tragedy.

Dakota had been planning to propose.

However, while waiting for the ideal moment to propose to Patterson, Hudson stashed the engagement ring in the house.

And when the tornado blew up their home, it was the only thing on his mind.

Like a needle in a haystack.

Considering how small the ring is, he almost lost hope that he’d find it. Looking for it is like searching for a “needle in a haystack.”

They still found reasons to be thankful.

For the couple, it was already a huge blessing that they survived the catastrophe.

After all, the most important thing for them is being together.

“We just held onto each other and we prayed,” Patterson recalled of the nerve-wracking moment. “The house began to lift. You could hear the creaking of the house as it pulled up off the slab.”

He told her about the ring.

He broke the news to Lauren that he actually had a ring ready to be given to her but lost it in the tornado.

As a loving girlfriend, she told him that it was alright and that there was nothing more she needed.

The softball players from the Paris Junior College team came to the area where the home had formerly been and volunteered to assist the couple clean up and look for the ring.

They were determined to find the ring.

“When you tell 20 girls someone is going to get engaged if they find a ring, they are going to find it,” Hudson fondly remarked.

One player found it.

Kate Rainey, a softball player, discovered the jewels buried two inches below the surface despite the very slim chances.

It was a glimmer of hope.

“I was just kind of digging through the mud in this certain particular spot, and I kept digging there,” Rainey recounted. “I don’t know why—I felt led to dig right there, and I found a little piece of a metal circle, and it was not metal. It was gold.”

At that time, the whole team was already searching for hours.

With the ring back in his hands and the softball team present, Hudson wasted no time in popping the question to his girlfriend.

There was no time to waste.

So he quickly walked to his beloved girlfriend, got down on his knees, and popped the lovely question.

The girls couldn’t help but show their love to the couple.

“Finally, you had a moment to smile, and it was a real smile,” Patterson happily shared. “It was a very surreal moment. I couldn’t have asked for a better proposal.”
