This is a great example of why we should never underestimate the power of love or the wisdom of our elders. 🥰

Love can truly make us do anything in the world. Another story of an elderly couple captured the world for their out-of-this-world display of affection.

On March 2 in Wilson County’s Lebanon, a married couple successfully broke out of the Elmcroft Facility’s memory unit.

The couple, whose names were not disclosed, both suffer from dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

But they just showed us that not even a memory problem will stop them from being together.

A love that knows no bounds

The couple, as inappropriate as it may sound, impressively used their past military experience to carry out their plan.

They used the Morse code.

According to the Tennessee Board for Licensing Health Care Facilities, they reportedly utilized the Morse code to decipher and remember the code to the door.

Knowing that they both have dementia, it’s amazing how they were able to execute this plan.

Fortunately, a stranger saw the couple walking near the facility and suspected that something was off.

They were out for 30 minutes.

Then they were found. When they were finally taken back into the facility, they were questioned as to how they were able to escape through the door’s electronic keypad.

As per the husband, he “previously worked with Morse code in the military.”

By meticulously listening to the sound of the keypad whenever a facility employee punches in the numbers, he was able to use the skill to identify the door code.

That’s mind-blowing considering his disease.

Although the couple was successfully taken back into the care home, the Elmcroft assisted living facility was fined by the state.

They had to shell out $2,000.

They also declared that they would increase the frequency of checking on the residents so that an incident such as this would not happen again.

Additionally, they are now allowing the husband to enjoy some “walking time outside the facility with a staff member present.”

Elmcroft also released a statement:

“The safety of our residents is the top priority at our senior living community. We are thankful both residents were returned to the community safely.”

“We reported the situation to the state and their family immediately after it happened and fully cooperated with the state during its reviews,” they continued.

To further prevent any more residents from breaking out, every security code in the facility was changed.

Although this was an unfortunate event that could’ve gone so wrong had they not found them in time, we still have to give it to the elderly couple for conquering everything together.

It’s now pretty obvious how their relationship flourished throughout all these years.

It just goes to show that even a memory-striking disease such as Alzheimer’s is not a hindrance when it comes to love.
