For the record, they are just rehearsing!

When we were still studying, we saw countless marching band performances at school events, programs, talent shows, sports events, and many more. These marching bands make any event livelier with their stunning performances and they can hype up any crowd in an instant.

But have you seen a drumline performance?

It is a choreographed musical arrangement that’s mixed with body movements or routines. Obviously, they use drums in a drumline and it usually has all-male members.

“A “drumline,” also known as the “battery,” or “batterie,” is a section of percussion instruments usually played as part of a musical marching ensemble. A drumline can also be a section on their own competing against other drumlines. Marching bands, drum and bugle corps, and indoor percussion ensembles are some examples of groups that include a drumline.”

A drumline, being just a part of a marching band, also has parts…

“The drumline in a band, also known as battery, is a percussion section of a marching band usually consisting of a snare line, tenor line, and a bass line.”

A drumline is not just about creating music.

It includes beat, rhythm, timing, coordination, power, synchronization, body movements, and much more. The intensity that a drumline has is heart-pounding and it has no room for errors because one mistake can immediately ruin the entire routine.

People always say that “nobody is perfect” and that mistakes are inevitable, yes that’s true, but it doesn’t apply to a drumline. Here, everything needs to be PERFECT!

In a drumline, they don’t follow and play along with a particular piece of music- they create the music. It is a collective effort from a group of skilled drummers with a very keen sense of hearing and incredible timing.

To give you a better understanding and a clearer view of how complex a drumline performance can be, here’s the Bluecoats School of the Arts’ drumline.

In this video, a group of men are in line, each member yielding their musical instrument. Within just seconds of the video, the group immediately starts off strong with a banging intro.

The group consists of three sets of drummers, each set holds a different type of drum but all of them are doing incredibly well, and we are just halfway through the video.

Oh, and by the way, according to the description of the video, this is just a warm-up.

If this is just a rehearsal, then what more can this group bring to the actual performance?

They are all in posture throughout their warm-up run, the group also executes some stunts with their drumsticks, all the while maintaining the rhythm and beat of their music. Their focus goes beyond 100% and not a single member plans on missing a beat.

They are ready to go to war!

Though it’s not specified if their performance is meant for a competition or not, there’s no denying that this group is ready to bring their Aces to the table. This is simply too perfect to be just a warm-up, wouldn’t you agree?
