We all know it takes a “village” to raise a child. But frankly, it would be wonderful if that same village could work together on other projects as well to help alleviate some stress on an individual.

It really would be nice to live somewhere where everyone is happy to help each other out.

You wake up early in the morning to the smell of breakfast cooking, drink your coffee, and eat your hearty meal. Then, you go out, and you’ll be greeted by your neighbors and friends from your community.

All of the men in your community go straight to one location as each one has already a task assigned to them. Before the sun rises, everyone has already started working.

The video below shows around 50 Amish men working on a barn. The said video since went viral because the whole process just took them 10 hours to finish.

Scott Miller, an Ohio resident, was able to create this incredible video using a total of 1600 images that were taken from the morning, around 7:00 am until early night time, around 5:00 pm.

The whole barn was completed in a single day without the use of heavy machinery.

But before we see the video, let’s talk about how barn-raising works.

According to Infobloom:

“A barn raising is a community event at which all members of a community cooperate to build a barn or another structure, such as a home or church. Barn raisings were an integral part of life in Colonial America; a well-organized barn raising would take less than a day to pull of the materials needed together into a recognizable barn, although the structure might require some finishing later.”

For the Amish, this is considered a labor of love. These men donate their time and effort to work together in hopes of finishing the structure in one day.

Now, the ladies of the community would gather as well, preparing a feast for the hard workers.

Can you imagine how beautiful this community is?

At lunchtime, everyone shares a warm and hearty meal, and after a few minutes of rest, the men go back to their project while the women and children clean.

As the sun bids goodbye, the barn raising also comes to an end. A hard day’s work but a fulfilling one as well.

Each one will bid each other goodbye and say their appreciation for the day’s labor.

At the end of the long work day, the goal is complete – there’s a beautiful new barn standing in place.

Barn raising – a time-lapse video

The barn-raising video shows how the Amish people are so disciplined regarding their work.

As we can see, each person has their own task and works without supervision. Teamwork is also seen as each one works swiftly, thus making the barn-raising process easier and faster.

The barn is actually very big, so it’s just amazing to learn that they all completed the project in just 10 hours with no machine help!
